Haxprocess are an anomaly in death metal. With a thick, sludgy, Floridian death metal sound, they play heavy, progressive-minded music that melds influences from death metal bands as stylistically diverse as Blood Incantation, Opeth, and The Chasm, and yet end up creating something cohesive and impactful. Over the course of their previous albums, they’ve only coalesced their sound which remains consistent even with the endless vagaries of their kind of music along with plentiful melodic passages. Averaging five minutes, most of the songs on this album are short—comparatively half the length of the tracks on the previous one—but this is counterbalanced by the masterful 21-minute closer which will force you to see the band in a new light. Haxprocess remain a weird specimen and even more so on this album, like an incredibly rare species in the animal kingdom: something not easily understood but fascinating all the same, which one could observe at length over and over again.
