The integration is thorough and the marked oscillation between the two happens naturally rather than it being a forced process. For a band of this ilk, the music is far more intricate and involved than it seems, with moments of it being fleshed out or slowed down if only to emphasize the unfathomable heaviness. At other times, the music builds in intensity until it reaches a crescendo, to be followed by a filthy, chugging part, a ripping solo, or a transcendental or industrial-tinged atmospheric passage. They manage to mix it all up without losing coherency or their asphyxiating grip on the listener. This is an engrossing, diligent album rife with downright wicked riffs, an ominous atmosphere, and some insane structuring, more so than most others in the vein. It took them five years to come up with a follow up album and the progress on it is simply staggering. The music seems to have taken an ethereal form, soaring above and raining down thundering riffs followed by shards of piercing melodies. The alternating showers ensure the music doesn't overwhelm with either blasting or mellow parts, maintaining an elegant balance that keeps you trapped in a dreamlike state throughout its duration. "Agnomysticism" is a highly accomplished album, virtually flawless in all ways, that takes the sound of the band forward and elevates it beyond the ordinary. On their fifth full-length album, "Hermetic Transmutation", they retain their core sound as they elaborate on both the progressive and technical aspects, even borrowing elements of brutal death metal and dissonant death metal to achieve that. The influences are finely integrated into their ever throbbing, busy music, never seeming forced and instead adding meaningful variation to their intense sound. The music's persistent groove belies its highly intricate quality; there's just so much happening while you're busy bobbing your head, tapping your feet, or rolling on the floor. After years of toiling, Xenosis have created a delightfully engrossing album that is bound to confound, tantalize, and ultimately satiate fans of this kind of music.
