Atmospheric death/doom metal band Oak with Gaerea members are on the verge of releasing their debut full length titled ‘Lone’ and we’re proud to sign a contract with them for their worldwide release on all formats. Oak fit well alongside our doom metal label mates such as Officium Triste, Jupiterian, Eremit, Drug Honkey, Illimitable Dolor, Et Moriemur, Towards Atlantis Lights, etc.
Label owner Kunal Choksi states, “I’ve had a fantastic experience working with Gaerea and when I came to know that their members are involved in another band playing doom metal called Oak, I was immediately intrigued. Upon listening to their music, it was clear that I had to work with them. Their level of professionalism is maintained over here as well, with everything sounding just the way it should and also careful consideration been given to the artwork and overall aesthetics. Despite being a new band, the members are experienced and know their way around things and I’m sure this will go down as a significant release in the genre in 2019.”
Oak members comment, “We’re thrilled to finally announce Oak’s first Full length is coming to you via Transcending Obscurity Records. Being friends with Kunal for such a long time and having worked with TOR in the past, it felt very natural to deliver this first experience via the Indian ranks, which never stop to amaze us. Oak is formed by passionate individuals and you can’t often find such committed team to work with. We feel at home. “Lone” is a long journey where you find yourself in the middle of multiple scenarios and you can almost see the landscaping as you hear the gigantic sounds that echo through all of those places. From the burden one could carry to hold this world to the claustrophobic maze that traps your soul, “Lone” was fully produced and mastered at Stone Sound Studios (The Ominous Circle, Colosso, etc,) by Ricardo Oliveira. The majestic cover art was crafted by one of the most talented hands of our time, Paolo Girardi.”
While we’ve been on the lookout for worthy grind/crust acts, they’re few and far between, at least the ones that appeal to us. Marginal put out a brilliant album late last year, following the devastating HM-2 crust release by Henry Kane, and it’s obviously with great pleasure that we announce the addition of another grind/crust band to our roster this year after Morgue Supplier from US. The fact that they’re from Argentina only makes things interesting. Their work ethics and professionalism are better than most bands in established countries for this kind of music.
Transcending Obscurity Records owner Kunal Choksi states, “I’m extremely happy to get a chance to work with another killer crust/grind band after Henry Kane and Marginal. In fact, it was the latter band’s member Johan Antonissen who tipped me off about this band, even though they had already approached me. I simply adore their passion and zeal for this kind of music. I wasn’t expecting such a band from Argentina but I’m only glad to have this opportunity. Medium‘s album will be out on multiple formats when the time is right. For now enjoy this clip taken from their official video.”
Medium add, “We are utterly proud and excited for being signed by Transcending Obscurity Records. Their support and our commitment join forces to make our debut album and further releases available in all corners known (and unknown)”
Master are one of the earliest proponents of death metal and are veritable legends in the line, having been around for over three decades and releasing over a dozen records. It’s phenomenal to get a chance to work with a band of their repute and we can only be grateful to be given a chance to work with them for a brand new full length this year if not more. Master‘s latest album ‘Vindictive Miscreant’ will not only please their old fans but will also turn many new listeners into one. It’s their best album in years.
Transcending Obscurity Records label owner Kunal Choksi says, “It’s truly a dream come true to work with a legendary band in Master. Paul Speckmann proved to be a man of rare integrity and signed the contract within two hours of bringing up the topic. Needless to say, I will be doing my utmost best not to let him down and do greater things for his band, now and in the future. This is a very fortuitous signing for the label and I couldn’t be happier. Hard work does pay off, it seems, when there was little respite. Thanks to Rogga Johansson of Paganizer for highly recommending my label to the band. Here’s hoping for a strong partnership with the legends Master.”
Master’s founder Paul Speckmann comments, “Of course it’s an honor and a privilege in these days to sign to a reputable label which comes highly recommended by many excellent musicians! The future of Master carries on and we will fight until the end!”

Dødsferd have to be one of the most underrated bands in the style. They’ve toiled hard for years and haven’t yet received the attention they’re due. Their music has rare poignancy of late and it’s something that is relatable too, especially in these times, more now than ever before. The way they infuse melodies against a harsh, minimalistic backdrop is stunning. It’s atmospheric black metal and DSBM going hand-in-hand, with the emotions being all too palpable and real.
Transcending Obscurity Records owner Kunal Choksi states, “It’s an honour to work with a long-running and respected band such as Dødsferd. Their music always had this magical, haunting quality and I ended up revisiting it often. Their new album has the same quality. There’s a level of sincerity and depth that’s unparalleled and hope people come to understand that. It’s a magnificent album and will see the light of day on various formats this year. Wrath is a man of integrity and here’s hoping for a great partnership with him and his band.”
Dødsferd add, “My new album is the darkest and most soul-destroying albums I have ever written through all these 17 years of existence. ‘Diseased Remnants of a Dying World’ incipits the destruction of man and all the weak theories that kept him hypnotized all these years, sacrificing his will and strength to useless and unknown “higher” powers and incompetent shepherds. I never followed trends; I never compromised with the sayings and preferences of the masses. My new album is also my reply to nowadays black metal scene. I am still following my own path, like I did all these years and I am truly honored that I have found a trustworthy and respected ally such Transcending Obscurity Records to spread the word for my new album. A new era for my band is rising!!!! Nothing is external!!!”
After The Whorehouse Massacre, we are thrilled to be working with yet another sludge/doom band from Canada – Algoma. The members have been an absolutely delight to work with and we can’t wait to put out their upcoming full length album on CD and digital.
Transcending Obscurity owner Kunal Choksi states, “I’ve been following their music since their full length debut and see great potential. I prefer my music to be crushing and they’re one of the heaviest bands out there with a great sound to boot. I’m sure the new album will sound wicked and I’m happy that their signing to the label will complement others on the roster like The Dead and The Whorehouse Massacre, not to mention Officium Triste.”
Algoma add, “We’re very happy to be signing with Transcending Obscurity Records to release our next full length album! Kunal does a great job! He’s very dedicated and hard working! We look forward to spreading our sludge noise to new ears! Expect more raw, filthy, sonic destruction! We’ve got heavy down-tuned riffs, thick distortion and mind numbing feedback, so if you’re a fan of Grief, Meth Drinker, Buzzov•en or Eyehategod, you gotta check us out!!”
