VIDEO PREMIERE: U.S. Psychedelic Rock Band Obscured By Clouds

Obscured By Clouds- Thermospheric

One of the best parts of being a music writer is rediscovering bands you wrote about years ago.  This is exactly what happened to me with Seattle’s Obscured By Clouds.  The group’s ‘Psycheclectic’ made a strong impression back in 2009 with its combination of Pink Floyd progressive rock alongside a range of other rock influences.  Eight years have gone by since then, and I was pleasantly surprised to see the band name pop up again in my inbox this past week.  This time around Obscured By Clouds has put together a live album titled ‘Thermospheric’ that will be released alongside a Blu-Ray of the performance.  Containing seven out of the eight songs that were on ‘Psycheclectic’ alongside two new tracks, it’s sure to serve as a great introduction to newcomers and a great way for established fans like me to hear these songs from a new angle.  With ‘Thermospheric’ set for release on October 27th via the band’s own label Psycheclectic Records, today we’re excited to premiere a music video for Consider This A Message.

February 2017 Highlights – TO Staff

When I put up the post for the February 2017 highlights in the staff group, I honestly did not expect these many entries. My tunnel vision and assumption that February’s tend to have few notable releases, led me to believe that there were only a handful of records worth noticing this month. Good thing I work with a bunch of talented scribes that always turn my attention towards the stuff I overlooked. Here are the albums that we believe you must check out this month  ~ Shrivatsan R

INTERVIEW+ ALBUM PREMIERE: Norwegian Heavy Metal Band Ghost Avenue

Ghost Avenue- Impact

When you think of Norway, chances are that the metal bands that come to mind are on the extreme side of the spectrum.  Certainly much of the metal from that country over the past two decades has skewed towards black metal and similar styles, but there are some talented acts that channel melodic heavy metal if you dig a bit deeper.  One of these is Ghost Avenue, formerly known as Ghost.  Formed in 2002, the group has been offering their own take on melodic heavy metal and hard rock across two full length albums, and now they’re ready to release album number three via Pitch Black Records.  Titled ‘Impact’, this is a sci-fi concept album that features powerful, soaring vocal lines courtesy of singer Kim Sandvik and catchy guitar leads.  With the album set to come out this Friday, February 3rd, we’re excited to offer you an exclusive first listen of the entire release alongside an interview with the band.

INTERVIEW: U.S. Thrash/Hardcore/Hard Rock Band X-Method

X-Method- Sex, Alcohol, Rebel Music

Back in August we premiered a song from Bay Area thrash/hard rock band X-Method.  Their debut full length ‘Sex, Alcohol, Rebel Music’, which was released via Pavement Music, caught my attention with a perfect blend of old-school and crossover thrash influences fused together with hardcore and hard rock elements.  Spread across seventeen songs, it really had a little bit of everything for listeners to discover.  Sometimes the band might rip through some fast paced riffs that are equal parts Slayer and D.R.I. while other moments might have a groove metal slant or even a bit of that Sevendust style hard rock melodies circa their better days.  I was curious to find out more about what these guys were all about, particularly as they have a sizeable fan base in South America and have toured down there at an earlier stage than most groups.  Vocalist Abby provides some in-depth answers which you can read below, and if this material grabs you pick it up from Pavement Music!

VIDEO PREMIERE + INTERVIEW: French Hard Rock Band Berserkers

Berserkers- Lock & Load

When you think of hard rock and rock ‘n roll, France probably isn’t the first country that comes to mind.  But Berserkers, who have been around since 2009 and recently released their new full length ‘Lock & Load’, are looking to change that.  On this newest album they’ve done their best to merge the worlds of old and new, taking classic keyboard and guitar driven rock and adding some modern flairs alongside just a hint of metal.  It caught my attention with hook after hook, accented by the soaring vocals of Julien “Julius” Logeais.  Today we’re excited to bring you a premiere of the band’s new music video for the song The Foolish Man, so you can hear for yourself just how well these guys have these rock hooks down.  Check out the video below, along with an interview with Berserkers where they talk about all the work that went into this material.

SONG PREMIERE: U.S. Thrash/Hardcore/Hard Rock Band X-Method

X-Method- Sex, Alcohol, Rebel Music

The Bay Area has given birth to a host of classic metal bands, particularly when it comes to thrash.  Over the years there have been plenty of new groups forming that take some of these influences and branch them outwards to head in different directions.  X-Method is a great example, as while some of their material on debut full length ‘Sex, Alcohol, Rebel Music’ has that fast paced thrash and crossover thrash sound, they incorporate a lot of other genres into their mix.  Faster riffs give way to slow hardcore-tinged grooves and rock melodies that wouldn’t sound out of place from a band like Sevendust.  Though I know some of you might be way of the hardcore/rock mix in thrash, rest assured that these guys actually do it in a way that works rather than jamming the styles together awkwardly.
