Atmospheric death/doom metal band Oak with Gaerea members are on the verge of releasing their debut full length titled ‘Lone’ and we’re proud to sign a contract with them for their worldwide release on all formats. Oak fit well alongside our doom metal label mates such as Officium Triste, Jupiterian, Eremit, Drug Honkey, Illimitable Dolor, Et Moriemur, Towards Atlantis Lights, etc.
Label owner Kunal Choksi states, “I’ve had a fantastic experience working with Gaerea and when I came to know that their members are involved in another band playing doom metal called Oak, I was immediately intrigued. Upon listening to their music, it was clear that I had to work with them. Their level of professionalism is maintained over here as well, with everything sounding just the way it should and also careful consideration been given to the artwork and overall aesthetics. Despite being a new band, the members are experienced and know their way around things and I’m sure this will go down as a significant release in the genre in 2019.”
Oak members comment, “We’re thrilled to finally announce Oak’s first Full length is coming to you via Transcending Obscurity Records. Being friends with Kunal for such a long time and having worked with TOR in the past, it felt very natural to deliver this first experience via the Indian ranks, which never stop to amaze us. Oak is formed by passionate individuals and you can’t often find such committed team to work with. We feel at home. “Lone” is a long journey where you find yourself in the middle of multiple scenarios and you can almost see the landscaping as you hear the gigantic sounds that echo through all of those places. From the burden one could carry to hold this world to the claustrophobic maze that traps your soul, “Lone” was fully produced and mastered at Stone Sound Studios (The Ominous Circle, Colosso, etc,) by Ricardo Oliveira. The majestic cover art was crafted by one of the most talented hands of our time, Paolo Girardi.”
This is definitely one of our most eagerly awaited releases and it’s coming out at the best time of the year for us, just following ones by Master and Heads For The Dead. If you like death metal drenched in darkness and lots of eerie old school atmosphere, keep an eye out for this one. Pre-orders begin this month.
Transcending Obscurity label owner Kunal Choksi states, “I’ve been waiting for this release for a long time and finally things are completely ready. The timing is just perfect, as it follows the release of Jonny’s band Heads For The Dead and also the mighty Master. It’s also the first time we’ll be working with the legend Kam Lee, so we’re all very excited about it. Above all though, the music is exceptional and both Jonny and Kam have outdone themselves here – it’s dark death metal with elements of black and atmospheric doom. Needless to say, it’s one of the most awaited releases this year for us.”
Nattravnen‘s vocalist Kam Lee comments, “I am very excited for this album. First off it was during the making of The Grotesquery‘s 4th full length album, when Rogga Johansson told me about Jonny, and that he was looking for a vocalist to put lyrics and vocals to some music that he had. Rogga already knew by working with me previously on the three albums for The Grotesquery my ability to be able to put concept albums together with a storyline. And that this was something that possibly Johnny was looking to do with the music he had. Also I knew Jonny’s work from other bands like Wombbath, Ashcloud, Just Before Dawn & Henry Kane, so when I found out that I had a chance and opportunity to work with this great musician I jumped on it. Once I heard the music I knew exactly the tone that this album needed to take and it was perfect with the theme I was working on. As well it was like synchronicity… as if the universe wanted something to happen because I just so happen to be working on my own gothic horror fairy tale at the time and was leaning towards doing something with Scandinavian mythology. Johnny and I got to talking and he told me about this legend that his grandmother used to tell him as a child about the Night Raven. As soon as he told me the name of this mythical creature everything just fell into place. And that’s how everything came to be. The name of the band, the entire concept story, the mythology, everything all based on the Nattravnen.”
Nattravnen‘s music composer Jonny Pettersson adds, “This album have been in the making for a long time. I started working on these songs many years ago, but never felt that I could give them the vocal justice they needed. Rogga Johansson (Paganizer, Down Among the Dead Men and many more) introduced me to Kam who accepted the task of vocal mastery. It’s been an honour to complete the album with Kam, and with once again mighty Transcending Obscurity backing us up, and with label boss Kunal’s pure dedication, I’m positive this is one for the books.”

Spanish death metal band Eternal Storm will be releasing their upcoming album titled ‘Come The Tide’ on Transcending Obscurity Records. It’s a superbly tempered album that takes in elements of progressive, melodic as well as aggressive death metal to create their own brand of death metal that is at once refreshing and unpredictable without losing continuity. They’ll be good label mates with our existing death metal bands such as De Profundis, Heads For The Dead, Eye of Purgatory and others.
Label owner Kunal Choksi states, “I’m very happy to come across a fresh and resounding album in the style after ages. It happens to be the new full length of the ambitious Spanish band Eternal Storm who seem to have a great future ahead of them. Their death metal music is expansive, even atmospheric and progressive, which lingers in your mind long after it’s over. We’re proud to welcome them to our fold.”
Eternal Storm guitarist Daniel Maganto comments, “After all these years working on our debut full-length, we are excited to announce that it will finally be released via the Indian label Transcending Obscurity Records. We feel honored to be collaborating with a passionate and committed individual like Kunal, and to be sharing home with bands we admire and respect like Master, Officium Triste, Paganizer, De Profundis and many others. This is also our first recording with Mateo on drums and we can’t wait to show you the evolution the band has undergone since ‘From the Ashes’. More news soon!”

It’s great that we’re getting a chance to work with more German bands. In addition to the massively awaited album by Heads For The Dead, which features members of Revel In Flesh among others, we have also announced the signing of Eremit who play stunning doom/sludge metal and Temple Koludra playing black metal and sharing members with Hexer.
Label owner Kunal Choksi states, “It’s an honour to work with the mesmerizing cosmic doom band Hexer from Germany. Along with label mates Eremit, they are sure to leave a mark where this style goes. Their brand of doom is just what I was looking for – something atmospheric and also intriguing, with the kind of occult heaviness that you can find in their label mates Jupiterian, with whom they toured last year. Their new album is one of my most anticipated releases and I’m sure it’ll be exceptional.”
Hexer members comment, “When Kunal invited us to join the roster of Transcending Obscurity, we already heard a lot about his work and the effort he puts into his releases, by our friends of Jupiterian and the german Trvefrykt-Zine. This collaboration gives us the opportunity, to work on new conceptual ideas and to create new soundscapes for the next chapter of our story. We are extremely stoked, that Transcending Obscurity will join us on this cosmic trip!”
We’re always trying to expand our repertoire and it’s a rare thrill to come across exceptional bands that push the sound in their own twisted ways. We had a different category altogether for such bands in our 2018 label sampler where even P.H.O.B.O.S. contributed a track along with other luminaries such as Veilburner, 0N0, Project Omega, etc. It’s time to reveal the album artwork and other information pertaining to their upcoming release titled ‘Phlogiston Catharsis’.
Label owner Kunal Choksi states, “I’m ecstatic and overwhelmed to work with a band of the calibre of P.H.O.B.O.S. It’s extremely rare to find relentless and overlooked projects with that originality. Once a one-man operation for almost twenty years, this now multifaceted entity of perfectionists is back with a vengeance, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. If in the past years we put out releases of Drug Honkey, then this year it will be P.H.O.B.O.S. that will keep high the torch of industrial black/doom metal, with their slab of sick atmospheres. Watch out for their upcoming release on Transcending Obscurity, which will for sure end up on several best of the year lists.”

We’re huge fans of doom metal as is evidenced by our recent releases in the style of bands such as Jupiterian, Drug Honkey, Mindkult, Illimitable Dolor, Altar of Betelgeuze and Warcrab, and we’re proud to work with a fantastic band in Et Moriemur who create captivating music with an epic atmosphere and even borrow influences from other genres to break the mould. Their third full length album will be up for pre-orders late this year.
It’s not often that you get to work with members of some of the most respected bands in the genre especially when the collective output sounds as good as this. Towards Atlantis Lights is a group with Kostas Panagiotou (Pantheist, Clouds), Ivan Zara (Void of Silence), Riccardo Veronese (Aphonic Threnody, Dea Marica, Arrant Saudade) and Ivan Olivieri. This international supergroup are on the verge of releasing their debut album titled ‘Dust of Aeons’ via Transcending Obscurity Records shortly.
Black Lion Records is a label that has done well for itself over the past few years. It seems to specialize in black metal and death metal music that’s leaning towards the melodic and/or atmospheric side. The one that we have here is no different. Legacy of Emptiness are from Norway and play a similar style of atmospheric black metal with melodic strains. We have the privilege of doing an exclusive lyric video premiere for them that not only showcases the band’s music but also glorifies the stunning artwork their new album ‘Over The Past’ has and gives us a glimpse into their lyrical themes. The song is both dramatic and intense unlike the more mainstream sounding bands in this genre which offer a diluted version of the music. Legacy of Emptiness alternate the faster parts with sublime melodies and atmospheric bits, keeping it balanced and even memorable. Musically, the band’s sound is comparable to a mix of bands like Images at Twilight, Vintersorg, early Enslaved and even a bit of Dissection, although they’re obviously trying to do things in their own vision. Fans that are into the atmospheric/melodic spectrum of black metal will be suitably pleased, as was I. So sit back and enjoy this video premiere and don’t forget to book a copy for yourself. The album is due for release on June 12th, 2017.
Drug Honkey and Transcending Obscurity Records go back a long way. In fact, back to the time when Transcending Obscurity was called Diabolical Conquest. We’re happy to renew ties with this exceptional doom band and also reveal info on the upcoming album.
Transcending Obscurity Records owner Kunal Choksi states, “I’ve fallen in love with Drug Honkey ever since I heard their 2008 album ‘Death Dub’ (which I ended up distributing as well). It gives me immense pleasure to continue working with Drug Honkey for their new album titled ‘Cloak of Skies’ which is supremely atmospheric while retaining the original twisted appeal. Thanks to Paul Gillis and the guys for having faith in my abilities.”
Drug Honkey vocalist/composer Paul Gillis adds, “I am very pleased to announce, the new Drug Honkey full-length album ‘Cloak of Skies’ will be unleashed on May 5th 2017 via the booming, ever-expanding, & awesome Transcending Obscurity Records label. CD, digital, and probably vinyl platforms will all be available, along with some killer box set/bundle options as well. Cover art painted by the ultra-talented Italian madman Paolo Giradi. Avant-garde sax shaman Bruce Lamont of Corrections House/Yakuza/Brain Tentacles has etched his mark on the title track of the album and none other than one of my biggest influences, the main man himself – Justin K. Broadrick, who has done an extraordinarily crushing remix/reconstruction of the opening track Pool of Failure which bookends the album. Pre-order details will be made available in the next week or so.”
Tracklist: 1. Pool of Failure (5:44) 2. Sickening Wasteoid (6:12) 3. Outlet of Hatred (6:48) 4. (It’s Not) The Way (6:36) 5. The Oblivion of an Opiate Nod (10:00) 6. Cloak of Skies (8:11) 7. Pool of Failure (JK Broadrick remix) (6:29)
